Help bring beavers to Craddocks Moss

How beavers can help

Craddocks Moss is a 47-acre lowland peat bog in North Staffordshire. It’s part of the internationally significant Meres and Mosses wetland network. Past drainage and conifer tree planting damaged the peat here, causing it to release carbon.

We've begun restoring the site, and now we're planning the final, transformative step: introducing beavers! They'll be able to naturally engineer wetland recovery, restoring the peat bog and vitally locking in carbon.

We are looking to secure £105,000 of grant funding towards the project. We have partnered with Staffordshire Business & Environment Network (sben) to raise the further £20,000 we need to cover the costs of the beaver enclosure, site infrastructure and ecological monitoring, plus five years of expert-led site management and evaluation.

This is an exciting opportunity for your business to support carbon capture and boost biodiversity in Staffordshire. We’re grateful of any support you can give.

Why this matters to your company

By supporting this project, your organisation will:

  • Advance Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): Align with net zero goals through measurable carbon restoration - Craddocks Moss once held an estimated 24,000 tonnes of carbon.
  • Demonstrate Leadership in Nature-Based Solutions: Beavers are proven to accelerate peatland rewetting, creating the conditions for long-term carbon capture. Restored peatlands improve biodiversity, water quality, and flood resilience which generates quantifiable environmental and social return.
  • Boost Local Biodiversity: Restore critical habitat for struggling rare species like the curlew and white-faced darter dragonfly by empowering a high-impact local initiative.
  • Enhance Brand Visibility and Stakeholder Engagement: Receive public recognition at the site, access exclusive photos/video and enjoy behind-the-scenes experiences for your staff.
