Wild activities on offer near Rugeley, Burntwood, Stoke-on-Trent and Biddulph during February half-term

Embark on a wild family adventure this February and encourage your children to discover the delights of the natural world.

Beat the winter blues by letting nature inspire you – with wildlife themed outdoor activities and crafting, there’s something for everyone.

The fun begins at The Wolseley Centre, near Rugeley, on Monday 16 February with two sessions:

  • 10.30am - 12pm – a Wildlings session designed for children aged 6 months to 5 years, but older siblings are welcome too. Activities include making mud pies, bug hunting, and toasting tasty treats on the campfire (weather permitting)!
  • 1.30- 3.30m - A Wildfamilies session suitable for all ages. Go wild in the woods! Swing in a hammock, build a den, or toast a tasty treat over the campfire.

Tuesday’s (17 February) offering is another woodland adventure with Forest School based activities from 10.30am until 12.30pm. You’ll be shown how to make useful items, build shelters, cook on fires, and generally have lots of fun! 

On Wednesday 18 February there are two sessions to choose from:

  • 10.30am - 12.30pm - Wildfamiles Arts and Crafts. Discover what nature can provide to make some amazing pieces of art! From hapa-zome the Japanese fabric printmaking technique, to creating your own natural paint brushes! Our Wildplay equipment will also be out for hammock swinging, den building, or making a mud pie!
  • 1.30pm - 3.30pm - Wildfamilies Spring Family Fun. Come and celebrate early spring and Valentine's Day. We'll have some lovely, themed craft items to make, and we'll create some bird feeders. There also will be a trail for spotting seasonal wildlife.

Booking is essential for all sessions, and they are integrated Aiming High sessions. Through Aiming High, children with SEND can secure places on this event for free. On Monday 16 February we’re also hosting a free Roaming Wildplay session at Gentleshaw Common, near Cannock Wood and Burntwood, between 1pm and 3pm. Join us to discover what wildlife lives here, sensory explorations, and crafting. Embracing the Forest School ethos, the experience encourages outdoor child-led exploration and play.

We play whatever the weather so please make sure both you and your little ones are dressed suitably. Meet us at Ye Olde Windmill Inn, Windmill Lane, WS15 4NF

For this event, it is recommended that you book in advance, but you can drop in.

On Wednesday 18 February we’re running a drop in Wildfamilies session at Biddulph Grange Country Park between 11am and 1pm. This session will include scavenger hunts, trails and ID guides to find, learning all about the season as well as our usual Wildplay activities such as swinging in hammocks or den building.

To find us, follow the path from the main car park up to The Hideaway Cafe and then from there follow our arrow signs to the woods. The walk is approximately half a mile from the car park.

On Thursday 19 February between 1.30pm and 3pm we’re also running a free Wildlings session at Hem Heath Woods, Stoke-on-Trent. Wildlings is for children aged six months to five years, but older siblings can join in the fun. No booking needed, £4 per child. We play whatever the weather so please make sure you’re dressed suitably - wellies are recommended. Booking required.
