Nature has been pushed to the brink, but beavers can help turn things around.

We urgently need to raise £25,000 to introduce a family of beavers to Craddocks Moss next spring.

In 2019, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust purchased Craddocks Moss, a lowland raised bog on the edge of Newcastle-under-Lyme, with the vision of restoring it to a thriving wetland rich in wildlife.

The work needed here is challenging, but there is a natural solution: beavers. These incredible ecosystem engineers create wetlands which support wildlife, absorb carbon dioxide, reduce flooding, and improve water quality.

But before we can release them into their new home, there’s a lot of work to do. We have to complete the groundworks, and we need an enclosure, equipment, and staff to monitor the beavers. 

We also plan to create footpaths and a viewing platform so you can visit and witness the work of these amazing creatures.

To make this happen, we need to raise £25,000 by Christmas Day 2025.

Hitting this target means we will have the full £172,000 needed to create the beaver's home before spring 2026 when we plan to release them.

What wildlife will benefit from the project?

Introducing beavers to Craddocks Moss will help to create habitats for an abundance of wildlife to thrive. This includes damselflies, dragonflies, birds, and bats.
