Wolseley bird hide can be repaired thanks to donations

A bird hide used by hundreds of people each week at a popular visitor destination in Staffordshire can be repaired thanks to the kind donations from members of the public.

The roof of the bird hide at Staffordshire Wildlife Trustā€™s Wolseley Centre headquarters, near Rugeley, was destroyed by the effects of Storm Ciara earlier this month.

And, thanks to donations, the Trust has raised almost Ā£900 in just one week to buy a new roof and carry out upgrades and maintenance to the hide.

The hide is used daily by visitors and is a greatĀ spot to see an array of birds, including kingfishers, sparrowhawks, nuthatches, chaffinches, robins, blue tits and many more.

The Trust set a Ā£750 target to cover the cost of the roof repairs, but exceeded that target as a result of theĀ response to the appeal.

Jon Owen, Press and Social Media Officer for the Trust, said: ā€œOur Wolseley Centre HQ is a much loved visitor attraction for plenty of people, and when we told people on social media about the bird hide being destroyed due to the storm, we were asked by people if they could donate or give money to help us repair it.

ā€œSo we decided to set up a fundraiser and were delighted with the response.

ā€œWeā€™d like to say thank you to all those who donated. It means we can purchase a new roof and carry out upgrades to the bird hide to make it an even nicer place to watch wildlife at our centre.ā€

The Wolseley Centre is based near Rugeley, just off the A51. For more details visitĀ https://www.staffs-wildlife.org.uk/explore/our-visitor-centres/wolseley-centre
