Project has inspired thousands to get closer to nature in North Staffordshire

A Children in Need funded project which has helped thousands of young people get closer to nature in North Staffordshire will come to an end this June.

Staffordshire Wildlife Trust has been running freeĀ Wildlings, Wildfamilies and GetWild sessionsĀ in Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme for the past 10 years across various wild sites and locations, including at some of its own nature reserves.

The sessions were able to take place thanks to funding from the Children in Need project ā€“ and have allowed the Trust to work with over 18,000 children to inspire their wild side.

Through interaction with nature the project has helped children and young people to improve their communication, improve their confidence and increase their ability to play.

Katie Shipley, People Engagement Manager for the Trust, said: ā€œ'This funding has been a wonderful opportunity for Staffordshire WildlifeĀ Trust to encourage children, families, schools and community groups to enjoy, and protect their local wildlife.

ā€œMore recently it has been more important than ever for people to get out and it has been great to have this project to help people to do that.

ā€œWe hope that the families we have worked with continue to be passionate about nature and theĀ benefits it brings long into the future.ā€

One of the final GetWild events will be held at Affinity Shopping Outlet in Talke on Saturday 26th June between 11am ā€“ 2pm. The session ā€“ ā€˜Make a bee and go on a scavenger huntā€™ is available for Affinityā€™s Kids Klub families.
