Local charity plea to Rugeley Tesco shoppers
The Trust applied for funding to run GetWild school holiday sessions at The Wolseley Centre, Wolseley Bridge, as part of the Tesco Stronger Starts community grants programme.
The programme, funded by Tesco and Groundwork UK, allows Tesco shoppers to vote for the projects they’d like to see win funding in their area. Voting will take place at both Tesco Superstore, Power Station Road and Tesco Express, Springfield Road, Etchinghill until mid January 2026.
Shoppers are awarded blue tokens when they buy items and can use these to vote by placing them in the SWT box. The Trust is asking local shoppers to consider voting for their project so they can run GetWild sessions during the school holidays at The Wolseley Centre at Wolseley Bridge.
GetWild enable parents to drop their children off to have fun outdoors, taking part in activities such as den building, bug hunting and campfire cooking. These sessions are suitable for children aged 8-16 years – they could also be climbing trees and generally getting a bit mucky outside!
Aimee Burrows, Wildchild and Engagement Lead for Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, says: “This is an exciting opportunity which would allow us to encourage even more young people from Rugeley and the surrounding villages to connect with nature.
“Spending time outside playing has huge benefits on children’s mental health and wellbeing. It’s been evidenced that connecting with nature from a young age increases children’s ability to deal with stress. It also boosts their confidence and equips them with new life skills.”
