Protecting Staffordshire's wild places and wildlife

Discover the incredible landscapes and wildlife of Staffordshire, from ancient woodlands and flower-rich meadows to wetlands, and moorlands. Learn about the vital role our nature reserves and conservation projects play in protecting and restoring nature across the county.

Find out how we work with volunteers, communities, local authorities, businesses and landowners to create more space for wildlife and explore how we encourage people of all ages to connect with the natural world and take positive action to make Staffordshire a Wilder County for everyone.

COMING SOON - Bringing beavers back to Staffordshire

The Eurasian beaver is native to the UK and was once widespread. This charismatic species played a crucial role in our wetland landscapes from prehistoric times until they were hunted to extinction in the 16th century.

Learn all about these fantastic creatures, the small number of wild beavers in Staffordshire and how we are working towards bringing more back; as well as the important role beavers will have at Craddocks Moss nature reserve.

Before you submit a talk request

Who are the talks suitable for?

Our talks are designed for adult audiences with a general interest in wildlife and conservation. We do not currently offer school assemblies or talks for children's groups.

How far in advance should they be booked?

We recommend making your request at least six weeks before your preferred talk date. We will do our best to accommodate your request, but availability depends on your location, preferred date and the capacity of our team.

Can talks be provided for specialist or expert audiences?

Our talks are aimed at people with a general interest and understanding of wildlife and conservation. If you are looking for a more advanced or specialist talk, please email fundraising@staffs-wildlife.org.uk. We will consult with our colleagues to see if this is possible. Please note that specialist talks require additional preparation and expertise, so a fee will be charged to cover the associated costs.

What equipment is required at the venue?

Our talks include a presentation, so please confirm that your venue has:

  • A projector and screen, or a large TV/display screen
  • An HDMI connection
  • An extension lead if required

We also ask that a member of your group is available to help operate the equipment if needed.

Is there a minimum group size?

Yes. Talks are available for groups of 15 or more people. If your group is smaller, you may wish to invite another group to join you.

How much does a talk cost and how should they be paid for?

Unless otherwise stated, we ask for a suggested donation of £100 per talk to help support our conservation work, plus travel costs of 55p per mile.

If you have chosen Staffordshire Wildlife Trust as your Charity of the Year or are raising funds for us through a fundraising event, the donation may be waived.

As our speakers are unable to accept cash, payments can be made:

  • By cheque
  • Online in advance
  • By BACS transfer

We will provide full payment details when confirming your booking.

Can small groups be accommodated?

Yes. To help make our talks accessible to smaller groups and those who may find it difficult to cover both the suggested donation and travel costs, we occasionally host talks at The Wolseley Centre. Individuals and smaller groups are welcome to attend these events. We simply ask attendees to make a donation to support our conservation work.
