The two Trusts have teamed up in a landmark partnership to restore nature and protect wildlife in the Peak District.

The two charities have agreed on a first-of-its-kind conservation covenant, ensuring long-term care for Greenbooth Nature Reserve in Cheshire.

Staffordshire Wildlife Trust will make sure grasslands are restored to help key wildlife thrive. Breeding waders and ground-nesting birds are set to benefit, and a locally significant population of waxcap fungi will also be protected. Over the next 20 to 30 years bird and fungi numbers here should increase.

The site will also offer public access. This means local people can enjoy the mental and physical wellbeing benefits of spending time at a nature rich place. The site will also welcome volunteers, creating opportunities for local people to connect with nature.

“This is a big step forward,” says Ross Harding, Head of Nature Based Solutions from Cheshire Wildlife Trust. “It shows how we can work together to deliver real benefits for wildlife and communities.”

Staffordshire Wildlife Trust will lead the restoration and monitoring, guaranteeing lasting results and continued nature recovery.
