What is Stepping Stones to Nature?
Stepping Stones to Nature provides lots of opportunities for people from all backgrounds to visit and get involved in their local green spaces or countryside. It focuses on North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. Opportunities like conservation volunteering, free workshops, free education visits and residential trips, big events and much more.
It is run by a partnership of organisations including Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, Peak District National Park, Royal Society for Protection of Birds and Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.
The project recieved a a grant for £347,000 from Natural England's Access to Nature scheme. This scheme recieves funding from the Big Lottery Changing Places Programme.
The project has 2 strands:
Communities
Provides opportunities for adults to engage with the natural environment through volunteering, workshops, training, events, community projects, residential volunteering trips, mentorship placements and Friends of Groups. WildSchools
Provides educational visits to countryside sites and nature reserves and teacher training to secondary schools, twinning scheme, primary school transition opportunties. For more information follow the link at the bottom of the page.
