Ash dieback
Staffordshire Wildlife Trust manages woodlands throughout Staffordshire and sadly all contain ash trees which are infected by a fungus called Hymenoscyphus fraxineus, also known as 'Chalara' or Ash Dieback.
A common tree, ash is familiar to many of us for its autumnal bunches of winged seeds, called 'keys'. It can be found in woodlands and prefers damp and fertile soils.
Staffordshire Wildlife Trust has completed the purchase of a new nature reserve near Leek - and is now hoping to make the 56 acre site a haven for wildlife.
The countyās largest nature conservation charity is to grow again, with plans to add a well known beauty spot near Leek to its portfolio of nature reserves.
