Wild winter highlights

Winter is tough for wildlife and it needs our support more than ever. Food is harder to find and the days are shorter. Although a lot of wildlife is hibernating, winter can be a great time to spot wildlife and look for tracks and signs of animals.

Winter spectacles include; stunning starling murmurations, short-eared owls hunting, breathtaking sunsets, pike spawning, hearing the calls of the woodlark, the hammering noise of a green woodpecker, festive favourite mistletoe and the spotting of a robin.

Large numbers of migratory ducks, geese and swans are present and other winter visitors to look for include redwingsfieldfares and in some years waxwings!

See below for some winter highlights to look out for!
