Cheddleton Conservation Volunteers

Staffordshire Wildlife Trust and Cheddleton Parish Council are working with the people of Cheddleton to manage the wildlife corridor along the footpath from The Boat Inn towards The Red Lion. The greenspace, sandwiched between Cheddleton Park Avenue and Caldon Canal, is made up of mixed woodlands and grasslands and is well used by local people. It already boasts a good diversity of wildlife and with suitable management could be made even better.

A local volunteer group undertakes tasks on the habitats and the footpath for the benefit of wildlife and people. Work parties will usually take place on the last Wednesday of each month from 10am - 1pm, but please check the latest programme for full details.

Wednesday 21st March, 10am - 1pm - Footpath maintenance

Wednesday 25th April, 10am - 1pm - Installing benches

Wednesday 30th May, 10am - 1pm - Removing Himalayan Balsam

The meeting place for all activities is the main access to the footpath off Cheddleton Park Avenue. Car parking is limited but more is available at Basford Bridge.

No previous experience is necessary and all tools, equipment and instructions will be provided, along with refreshments. All you need is suitable clothing and stout footwear.

Cheddleton Scouts

Schools and other local groups will also be able to get involved in activities on the site such as wildlife surveying and practical conservation work.

For more information about how you can get involved please contact Martin Evans on 01538 309416 or m.evans@staffs-wildlife.org.uk
